About The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York:
JFDINY was formed by Momo Suzuki (Director) in 1992. The purpose of our organization is to research, promote, and keep alive interest in traditional Japanese folk dances. Our primary function is the performing, teaching, and preserving of those authentic dances, historically performed by the working people of Japan. Through dance, we introduce audiences to the spirit of the Japanese people!
Some of our proudest achievements include performances at the Epcot Pavilion at Disney World Florida, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, annual performances at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Cherry Blossom Festival, as well as an appearance in Madonna’s music video “Nothing Really Matters.” Recent cultural advising/choreography work includes Dallas Opera and Atlanta Opera’s productions of Madame Butterfly (2022), as well as a residency in choreography at Boston University for Ronald Richardson’s play “Kamioroshi” (2019). Recent national media appearances include NBC’s The Today Show (2021).
